Vision. There are times when a youth is 17 years old and they have nowhere to go. This is accomplished by providing independent living services for all eligible youth as authorized in their ISP and, when possible, through group activities. The 412 Youth Zone welcomes young adults, 16-24 that are transitioning out of the foster care system and are eligible for independent living services or are experiencing housing instability. Independent Living services are provided to each youth in agency custody age 16 and over. The Nevada Independent Living Program is designed to assist and prepare foster and former foster youth in making the transition from foster care to adulthood by providing opportunities to obtain life skills for self-sufficiency and independence. Approximately 22,000 youth, ages 18 and older, emancipate out of foster care annually. The Independent Living Program assists adolescents in foster care in preparation for self-sufficiency. The Independent Living Program was authorized by the Foster Care Independence Act of 1999 (Public Law 106-169). Eligibility . The Ventura County Human Services Agency’s Children & Family Services staff provides Independent Living Services to foster and emancipated youth between the ages of 16 to 21. The Program. The Independent Living (IL) Program is a program that shall be developed in every county to guide youth toward success as adults. IL must be the most appropriate program for the youth. Youth must be a temporary or permanent court ward. Independent Living Program for Former Foster Youth. T he Independent Living Program (ILP) is a federally funded program which assists current and former foster youth between the ages of 16 and 21 achieve self sufficiency prior to, and after, exiting the foster care system.. Services available to help young people prepare for adulthood include: • Independent life skill classes It gives an opportunity to learn valuable skills necessary to make a successful transition from state or tribal custody to living on your own in the community. You may receive the help you need as a student in high school, college, or a vocational program. A youth must meet the following criteria for consideration in the IL program: Youth must be between the ages of 16 and 19 years. This design provides community ownership over the programs and services designed to help older foster youth and young adults who have spent time in Florida’s System of Care. Most are typically developing kids in need of a safer, more stable living environment. Services are provided through the local department of social services in the jurisdiction where the youth resides. The Department of Human Services (DHS), Social Services Division, Child Welfare Services Branch (CWSB), provides services, through our independent living program (ILP), to assist and support foster youth, age 12-18 years, under DHS placement responsibility due to abuse and neglect and former foster youth, 18-21 years of age, with their transition from foster care to adult self-sufficiency. Youth are assessed at age 16 using the Casey Life Skills Assessment. The Independent Living Services division and the Extension of Foster Care program strive for youth and young adults to achieve lifelong success. Through Kaleidoscope’s Independent Living program, our staff provides case management and other support services to assist youth ages 19 to 21 to live independently in the community while preparing for their transition to adulthood. Independent Living Program . The Independent Living Program provides services to the approximately 1,200 Mississippi youth ages 14 to 21 in the foster care system. The Independent Living Program (ILP) provides financial assistance and services to current and former foster/probation youth, 16-20 years of age, who have been determined to be ILP eligible by an ILP Transition Coordinator. Independent Living Aftercare services are designed to support eligible youth in their effort to achieve self-sufficiency. All children and youth need to learn basic life skills in order for them to become successful adults. Independent living becomes a goal as teens in out-of-home care approach adulthood. Case Services Plan ; The youth must participate in the case service plan and accept responsibility for the implementation with the assistance of identified individuals. Older youth in extended foster care are more likely to receive services, and receive more services, than older youth not in extended foster care. Kids Central and its partners provide Independent Living services to youth and young adults in the foster care system.
